40 and still counting!

“ Lord, if this man will make our lives happy then let it be but if at any time will cause me misery then please do something to separate us soon…”

This was what I remembered Te Inday shared to the youth on our SPG (small prayer group) a decade ago. She said she prayed this on her first date with Dr. Felix. Exactly today, they celebrate their happy, loving, Christ-centered and blessed 40th wedding anniversary.

I met this couple in a Life in the Spirit Seminar. Both of them are in all the way charismatic speakers, making words, phrases and sentences engrave in your hearts that they never fail to inspire people. That was when my admiration for them started.

I was never vocal nor brassy about my high regard to both of them because when I admire people, I like it even better to just observe and witness who and what they are. Though like most Christians who could never delight everyone, they continued with their service to God because according to them, this is for the greater glory of God and not for men hence my respect and appreciation never tailed off.

I have immense deference especially to Te Inday and I would always straighten myself up from being so hyper to listen whenever she starts to talk.

Growing up in an elite family, she was not familiar with blending with the common people but her sincere desire to serve God had broke the wall and prompted her to go on. I do not need to come from an elite family, because I come from quite the contrary of it, but I truly understand how challenging it was for her to struggle to blend in with the ordinary people.

I do not need to have the same story as she does to be inspired by them but truth to be told, my faith and spiritual journey deepened because of them. They were both my greatest spiritual giants in my life. I am posting this in my blog because I owe them whatever faith I have right now from them. They allow themselves to be God’s instruments to enlighten me on my daily struggles as a Christian.

Their genuine meaning to serve God has truly been given away by their happy, loving, and blessed family, career, business, relationships and everything any man could not achieve by his own means, strength and wisdom.

Need I say more, their smiles, hugs, kisses and presence will always inspire me that there is no other way to live life to the fullest than to fulfill one’s purpose that is to serve God into whatever vocation anyone would choose to be.

Happy 40th wedding anniversary Te Inday and Dr. Felix and I pray that there will be more blessed years to come!

A Few Good Men

Growing up with brothers as playmates, I grew up appreciating basketball, boxing and wrestling matches or games.

In a few hours from now, streets will be quiet and crimes will be lesser as Filipinos anticipate and watch the dream match of Oscar dela Hoya and Manny Pacquiao.

I feel proud of Manny to see him as the front cover for the RDAsia December issue this year.

I have been a fan of the Golden Boy during the time his career was rising due to the fact that he was good-looking hehe and the humility he exudes in every victory from his matches.

Personally, I do not care about Manny Pacquiao and I do not know why. Though I feel proud for him as a Filipino whenever he wins a match but secretly I sometimes wish for his defeat to see how the Filipinos would react.

By the time the news broke about this match, I was one of those who reacted sarcastically. What on earth had gotten to Manny to agree to this?! He was literally asking for the death of his career.

I was even secretly looking for someone to bet with. Someone who will bet for Manny as I will bet for OScar.

Then I came to realize, this has been literally the dream match. Oscar as the most famous Latino boxer fighting against the so-called “Mexican Killer” Manny to bring back the honor to them. This has been the fight the Mexicans have all been waiting for, to bring down the “Mexican killer’.

Rumors has it, that this has already been scripted as Oscar winning the game as his grand exit for his retirement on this career while Manny will be offered greater amount of money. As of now Manny will recieve an amount of more or less 500 million pesos for the pay per view excluding the prize. In a span of one hour, 16,000 tickets were sold for the game.

To Manny, what is to lose? If he loses the game, people would think it was really a mismatched game but if he wins, it will or might be the greatest honor in the boxing history. Whether he wins or loses, he will bring with him a huge amount of money.

We are going to watch it live pay per view from our local cable company here in our town (free of charge from the subscribers of the company). Neighbors and friends would be rushing and the small living room would be filled with noise and shouts.

Oscar has been to this industry 3 years or so before Manny started but records show that Oscar had only around 40++ fights for over 300++ rounds all in all while Manny had 50++ fights but lesser rounds for only 200++. Though the height and reach of Oscar is way intimidating for our small Manny. However, who says David did not kill Goliath?

So what does this mean? If experience is to be based, Manny has more when it comes to the number of fights but fewer rounds because he knocked them down.

These are the men I admire most in the boxing arena. In a few hours from now, I am going to watch maybe the greatest boxing match of the decade.

Now, it won’t be a secret anymore. I will pray harder as I have ever been to any basketball or wrestling or boxing matches I have ever did. I will put my faith into the best player. I will wish and hope for all the best for him.

God bless Manny Pacquiao! Win for the glory! Win for the Filipino people and most of all AD MAJOREM DEI GLORIAM!
