Pure Honey

I just love honey so much and I am not talking about myself (ugh!)
So how would you know it’s pure honey? Since I live in the province, there used to be a lot of vendors before going in to villages and subdivisions selling bottles of honey on the street. My father who lived his growing up years in the big city said to know if it is pure honey is to get a matchstick, dip it in and light it. If it is pure honey, the matchstick will still lite. If it does not, then you know it aint pure.
Last month, I wanted to buy honey in the supermarket but the jars had sugar crystals at the bottom in the jar. My mother told me it aint pure honey. Pure honey she said, do not crystalize, it does not change even if you store it inside the refrigerator where most Filipinos do because it attracts ants.
I bought a bottle of honey for only 100 pesos (around US$2 and a couple of cents) on one of the honey stalls on the sidewalks of the next town. They have this popular reputation of selling the purest honey.
I have been using honey for my teas.
Keeping Your Mind Healthy

If you hope to maintain cognitive function as long as possible, there are a number of lifestyle measures that may be protective, according to the Alzheimer’s Association:
- Stay socially and mentally connected.
- Keep tabs on your cholesterol level and blood pressure readings to keep them in the normal ranges. High levels of cholesterol and high blood pressure boost the risk of dementia.
- Manage your body weight. Obesity in middle age doubles the risk of dementia later.
- Adopt a brain-healthy diet. Eat more vegetables and less fat. Pick dark-skinned fruits and vegetables, which have the highest levels of natural antioxidants — for instance, kale, spinach, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, beets, red bell peppers, prunes, raisins, blueberries, blackberries and plums.

Perhaps most of us have already recieved this email but still I want to post it here:
if you think you are unhappy, look at them

if you think your job is tough, how about him?

if you think your salary is low, how about her?

If you think you don’t have many friends, ask yourself if you have one sincere friend…

you think study is a burden, how about her?

when you feel like giving up, think of this man

if you think you suffer in life, do you suffer as much as he does?

if you complaint about your transport system, how about them?

if your society is unfair to you, how about her?

Think positively and count your blessings.
You have many things and aspects in your life to be grateful for.
God bless.
Bucket List

“It’s difficult to understand the sum of a person’s life. Some people will tell you it’s measured by the ones left behind. Some believe it can be measured in faith. Some say by love. Other folks say life has no meaning at all. Me? I believe that you measure yourself by the people who measured themselves by you.”- Morgan Freeman from The Bucket List
I regretted not being able to watch it in the cinema. So I rented the dvd last Saturday. I was waiting for it for a very long time. Every weekend, I go to videocity and ask if they already have the copy. So when it was already available, the crew in videocity has reserved one for me.
I was so happy I watched it many times last weekend.
Aside from it is starred by the two of my most favorite actors Jack Nocholson and Morgan Freeman, I believe the story or plot is also excellent.
I was not wrong.

Sleep your way to slim

Like you, I suspect, I have a to-do list that runneth over. To fit in exercise, plus all my job responsibilities and family time, I used to steal from sleep—staying up too late, then dragging myself to the gym at 6 a.m. Big mistake! So my first piece of advice on the path to your best body is to sleep!
Do you like that? Thought you might. Don’t believe me? Consider this:
A study in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that clocking too few zzz’s may increase your appetite, which is what used to happen to me. I would replace the calories burned during a spinning class or run (and then some) because I felt depleted. People who log a solid eight hours, on the other hand, tend to weigh less. Ample shut-eye encourages your body to produce more of the fullness hormone leptin and less of the hunger hormone ghrelin, plus it helps ease anxiety and depression, both of which can trigger emotional eating.
You may also avoid injury. Skimp on sleep, and you’re more prone to clumsiness, which could mean a crash. A tired brain processes information more slowly, stalling reaction time so that even simple movements (pedaling a bicycle, swinging a tennis racket) can feel awkward. A study in Occupational & Environmental Medicine tested people on everything from coordination to concentration and found that those who got too little rest scored, on average, the same or lower than those with a blood-alcohol level of 0.05.
Rest assured, workouts (like SELF’s 30-day ab makeover program) will be more effective after a good night’s sleep.

– written by Max Ehrmann in the 1920s –
Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

Zoo York

Personally the Zoo York’s TV Commercial disgusts me. How come, these people accepted the offer to become its endorser when they reflect an image of people who grew up with no values.
It is fun to have fun, to be cool, to give pranks but not in that TV ad where you shower roaches sprayed by the trademark of Zoo York to the people on the subway, streets, anywhere in New York.
Well, it is there prerogative. Maybe they think it is funny, it is cool. However, it aint cool when you deliberately harm people. Yes, it might not be the same as hurting people but roaches are very dirty and everybody knows nobody like roaches and how people would react if these and more are thrown into them.
Maybe even in TV ads, people have really changed. In that TV ad, it just shows how some people really are so indifferent to other people or to the people around them.

Funny picture but it is amazing how creative Filipinos can be (even the kids)! I believe that sometimes poverty can develop and nourish creativity of one’s mind!
Well, for some the idea might be stupid…
